Greenhouse Tips

When your greenhouse kit arrives, there are many pieces just a few large boxes. The panels will make up a large box and the frame will make up another box. So what about when you are erecting the greenhouse kit? What do all these pieces really mean to the structure of your greenhouse? Let’s look at some of the pieces of a greenhouse a little more in detail.

When you are unpacking the greenhouse pieces, be sure to put them back in the box, and not to remove any plastic until you are ready to erect the greenhouse kit. Most often, similar pieces will be wrapped in plastic, such as your pieces for your vent, or a back wall, or you will also find if you are buying a kit with UV protection, one side will be marked for UV protection to be placed out on the greenhouse so it is important not to remove such markings until you are actually erecting the greenhouse.

When you are erecting the pieces of the greenhouse you can do this by yourself, you will only need help when putting the pieces of the walls together – when you stand up the different sections of the walls and they are being bolted together, but a creative person might be able to do even this on their own.

Be sure to use all of the rubber gaskets, seals and trim pieces that are included in your greenhouse kit. These pieces are essential for keeping your greenhouse water tight and resistant to the weather, similar to how your car has many rubber and plastic pieces.

If for some reason your greenhouse has a tiny airflow coming through where it should be tight you can use caulking to fill holes, gaps and cracks to keep water and air out.

If you are using wood shelving or wood flooring in your greenhouse, you will need to paint or stain it to protect the wood. Be careful using a latex paint, if the latex is actual going to touch a plant, it could be toxic and kill the plant. Consider using a stain or an oil-based paint in the greenhouse for your plants.

A greenhouse kit does take a little time to erect, be sure to check on how much time the greenhouse kit you would like to order takes to put together. Most all greenhouse kits can be assembled so you can start using the greenhouse in just the weekend!
